you are encouraged to attend to listen to the deliberations. We will keep

Beginning Beekeeping Classes
Beekeeping Class: The Howard
County Beekeepers Association will sponsor a Beekeeping Short Course in
2010 at the Howard County Fairgrounds in West Friendship, MD. (See

This course is open to anyone with an interest in honey
bees and will guide you in starting your own colony for pollination, honey
or educational experience. We encourage and welcome repeat students,
there is always something new to learn. The course consists of five
classroom sessions starting mid February and concludes with a field day
working with live colonies in April. HCBA cooperates with the Howard
County Extension Service and encourages 4-H family participation. Please
see the Syllabus and specific meetings for more information.
Classes will be held on Wednesday night: February
17th, and Tuesday nights: February
23, March 2, 9 & 16. All classes are from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. in the Dining Hall. A
field day will include work with live colonies (Date and location for
"Field Day" will be in March or April
to be announced).

New York City Health
Department to end ban on keeping honeybees
Honey lovers have a new reason to bee happy.
The city Health Department unveiled plans
Thursday to lift a decade-old ban on keeping honeybees in the
Big Apple.
The buzz began recently when a
sustainable-food group - Just Food - and other bee enthusiasts begged
health bosses to allow New Yorkers to keep the stinging insects.

Howard County Zoning Regulation News
A Public Worksession has been scheduled for this case
for January 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ellicott 2 Room of the County
Offices at 8930 Stanford Blvd., Columbia, Maryland. The official
record was closed on December 11, 2009 for written testimony. The board is
no longer accepting oral testimony regarding this case.
